A’s Bruce Maxwell trying to shed extra pounds he put on this winter
The primary reason the A’s went out and signed free-agent catcher Jonathan Lucroy was to provide a veteran to work with the team’s young pitchers. But there also was concern about second-year catcher Bruce Maxwell — not just his relative lack of experience working with a big-league pitching staff, but the fact that he came into camp at a hefty 270 pounds.
