Biography
Dr. Tariq Hendawi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. At TMI Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery, he focuses on diagnosing and treating injuries affecting the shoulder, elbow, and knee, helping athletes and active individuals return safely to peak performance.
Dr. Hendawi completed advanced fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopy at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, where he trained under renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James R. Andrews. During this time, he helped care for elite athletes from the NFL, MLB, and NCAA and served as a team physician for Auburn University athletics.
His orthopedic training began at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, where he worked alongside team physicians for the New Orleans Saints (NFL) and New Orleans Pelicans (NBA), gaining valuable experience in treating high-level sports injuries.
Since joining TMI Sports Medicine in 2019, Dr. Hendawi has worked closely with Dr. Keith Meister to refine advanced techniques in elbow surgery, including ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) reconstruction—commonly known as Tommy John surgery.
Dr. Hendawi currently serves as the Head Orthopedic Surgeon for the Dallas Wings (WNBA) and has served as a Team Physician for the Texas Rangers (MLB), in addition to providing care for local high schools and collegiate athletes.
His treatment philosophy emphasizes a conservative, patient-centered approach, prioritizing non-surgical options whenever possible and utilizing advanced minimally invasive techniques when surgery is necessary.
