Biography
Dr. Tariq Hendawi is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery. At TMI Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery, he treats injuries of the shoulder, elbow, and knee, helping athletes and active individuals return safely to sport, work, and peak performance.
Dr. Hendawi completed advanced fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopy at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, where he trained under internationally renowned orthopedic surgeon Dr. James R. Andrews. During his fellowship, he helped care for elite athletes from the NFL, MLB, and NCAA and served as an assistant team physician for Auburn University athletics.
He completed his orthopedic surgery training at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, working alongside team physicians for the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans. This experience provided extensive exposure to the evaluation and treatment of complex injuries in professional and high-level athletes.
Since joining TMI Sports Medicine in 2019, Dr. Hendawi has worked closely with his mentor, Dr. Keith Meister, to further refine advanced surgical techniques in elbow surgery. Ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction, commonly known as Tommy John surgery, has long been an area of particular interest. As a high-volume surgeon in this specialized field, the treatment of UCL injuries has become a major focus of his practice.
Dr. Hendawi has served as Head Orthopedic Surgeon for the Dallas Wings and as a team physician for the Texas Rangers. He also provides orthopedic care for local high school, collegiate, and competitive athletes throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
His treatment philosophy is conservative and patient-centered. He prioritizes non-operative care whenever appropriate and uses advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques when surgery is necessary. His goal is to provide each patient with an individualized treatment plan that restores function, supports recovery, and enables a safe return to activity.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Hendawi enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He values health & fitness, outdoor activities, and staying actively involved in his daughters’ sports and individual interests. Family and community remain central to his life, and he brings that same sense of commitment, balance, and personal connection to the care of his patients.

His goal is not simply to treat an injury, but to restore confidence, function, and long-term performance while providing thoughtful, accessible care throughout the recovery process.
