Jesse Even Profile

Jesse L. Even, M.D. specializes in surgery of all degenerative, traumatic, sports-related and oncologic disorders of the spine. He has special interest in conditions that affect the cervical spine and sports-related spine injuries. Dr. Even is a proficient researcher and contributes to numerous publications in the field of spine surgery. He was inducted into the Cervical Spine Research Society, the world’s most prestigious spine society, in December 2016. He has been awarded speaking opportunities and research awards at national spine meetings, including the Cervical Spine Research Society, North American Spine Society, Lumbar Spine Research Society and American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He has published manuscripts in every major orthopedic and spine journal including Spine, The Spine Journal, Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Bone, Journal of the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the Journal of Orthopedic Trauma. Dr. Even has also written several chapters for world-renowned spine texts including chapters on cervical disc replacement, cervical spine injury in athletes, axial neck pain, and transpedicular fixation in the lumbar spine. All this research experience allows him to use evidence-based medicine that has proven efficacy in clinical trials, and when appropriate, he employs minimally invasive and microscopic spine surgery techniques.

Dr. Even currently holds hospital appointments at Baylor Scott and White Surgical Hospital-Las Colinas, Trinity Park Surgical Center-Arlington, and Methodist Mansfield Medical Center. He is committed to the collaborative effort of surgical and nonsurgical care of all spinal disorders.

Dr. Even was born and raised in Conroe, Texas. He majored in biomedical science and minored in business while on a full athletic scholarship at Texas A&M University. His medical degree was obtained from the University of Texas-Houston Medical School at the world-renowned Texas Medical Center. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the prestigious Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. And finally, Dr. Even completed his fellowship training, specializing in spinal surgery, at the highly esteemed University of Pittsburgh Medical Center where he worked closely with prominent leaders in the field of spine surgery including Drs. James D. Kang, William F. Donaldson, III, Joon Y. Lee and Timothy Ward. While at the University of Pittsburgh he became proficient in every aspect of spinal care from the treatment of adolescent scoliosis and sport related spine injuries to complex cervical and lumbar reconstruction and revision surgery.

Dr. Even has a unique view on suffering from spine injuries. He suffered a fracture in his spine while diving off the ten-meter Olympic platform as a senior in high school while training for the US Diving National Championship. He was treated by an orthopedic surgeon who demonstrated to him the great passion and satisfaction that could be obtained in a career of orthopedic surgery. This incident, while very painful, helped him to realize his future calling and have a true respect for the pain and suffering associated with a spine injury. Dr. Even recovered from his spinal fracture, and after redshirting his collegiate freshman year, went on to become a five-time NCAA division I All-American, Academic All-American, and earned the most prestigious award given to student-athletes at Texas A&M, the Bill Erwin Scholar Athlete of the year Award in 2002. He was awarded post-graduate scholarships by the Big XII Conference and the NCAA to attend medical school at the University of Texas-Houston Medical School

Dr. Even is the Head Team Physician for the Texas Rangers Baseball Club, LLC and the Assistant Team Physician for the Dallas Stars Hockey Club, LLC. He is the president and managing partner of TMI Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery. He has been voted as a Best Doctor by the D Magazine and the Ft Worth Magazine.

Dr. Even is married and has four children. He spends his free time with his family and enjoys boating, ranching, sporting events, and being an active member of his church.
